PB-1 Classed Environmentally Friendly

Polybutene-1 has been successfully used in piping applications in Europe for over 50 years. District energy and underfloor heating systems installed in Austria and Germany in the 1960s are still operating problem-free today. PB-1 is classed 'environmentally friendly' (Technical University of Berlin) consuming less energy during manufacture, conversion, installation and use than its competitors. And as a polyolefin – it is fully recyclable.

Eco Impact

The impact a piping material has on the environment in terms of emissions into the atmosphere, soil and water, landscape scarring, and the potential for extended service life and recycling is assessed in cradle-to-grave environmental impact studies. Polybutene-1 has been rated as having low environmental impact in comparison with alternative piping materials including metals and other plastics.

Manufacturing

The manufacturing development and overall scope of PB-1 piping systems continues to expand. New specialised systems, enhanced installation techniques, and increased product sophistication, demonstrates the confidence of global manufacturers in the capabilities and long-term potential of PB-1 piping systems products. PB-1 needs no secondary processing so residual production can be recycled within the process and waste is negligible.

On-Site Installations

Due to their lighter weight and lower energy consumption, plastics plumbing systems have a distinct advantage over metal pipes. Polybutene-1 piping systems have proved to be 50% lower in total energy consumption than the other plastics systems. In addition, PB-1 systems are the safe on-site choice because of easy handling due to light weight and best in class flexibility.
